Background

Betafence USA is a leading manufacturer and supplier of premium steel and aluminum fencing systems for residential, commercial, industrial, transportation, public-space, and government projects across the United States. Its website serves both as an ecommerce storefront and a project-focused platform where customers can explore products, purchase fencing solutions, and request quotes. With both direct customers and professional contractors using the platform, Betafence needed an ecommerce experience capable of supporting conventional online purchasing alongside more complex B2B and wholesale workflows. As its digital requirements expanded, Betafence USA decided to move from WordPress to Shopify and build a faster, more scalable commerce foundation.

Opportunity/Challenge

Migrating Betafence USA was considerably more complex than simply moving products from one platform to another. The existing website contained product and collection pages, blogs, policies, brochures, installation videos, landing pages, SEO metadata, images, and established URLs that needed to be carefully transferred to Shopify.Protecting existing search visibility was particularly important. URLs, metadata, alt tags, internal blog links, and redirects all needed to be accounted for during the migration. At the same time, Betafence needed a stronger B2B commerce infrastructure for contractors, including registration, customer segmentation, account dashboards, invoices, reorder capabilities, and customer-specific workflows. The new platform also had to improve performance, product discovery, AI visibility, promotional flexibility, and ongoing store management.

Solution

Betafence USA partnered with StoreCartify to migrate its existing WordPress website to Shopify and build a more scalable B2B and B2C commerce ecosystem. The project combined Shopify development, UX/UI improvements, SEO migration, B2B functionality, content migration, performance optimization, structured data, and AI-focused enhancements.StoreCartify began with scope reviews and stakeholder discussions before developing wireframes and the overall site structure. The new Shopify experience was designed around Betafence's diverse audiences, allowing residential buyers, commercial customers, government organizations, and contractors to more easily navigate relevant products and solutions.

  • Performance and speed optimization
  • ADA compliance validation
  • Seasonal campaign development
  • Ongoing sprint-based improvements
This provided Betafence with a single Shopify foundation capable of supporting both immediate ecommerce requirements and continued digital growth.

WordPress to Shopify Migration

One of the project's most important components was moving Betafence's established WordPress presence to Shopify without disrupting the customer journey or existing search visibility.StoreCartify migrated the site's core content and ecommerce structure while rebuilding key elements specifically for Shopify.Products were organized into business-relevant categories such as Government, Public Spaces, Transportation, Residential, and Commercial, helping different customer groups navigate directly to relevant fencing solutions. The header, footer, collections, filters, and supporting content were also restructured to provide a cleaner shopping experience.

B2B & Wholesale Commerce Development

Betafence's contractor and wholesale operations required functionality beyond a conventional Shopify storefront.StoreCartify developed a dedicated USA Contractor Portal and implemented B2B registration through SparkLayer.Existing customers were migrated and tagged appropriately in SparkLayer, while registration and confirmation workflows were established for new B2B users.Customer-facing functionality included:
  • B2B registration
  • Customer tagging and segmentation
  • Contractor-specific portal access
  • Customized My Account dashboards
  • Invoice history
  • Reorder functionality
  • B2B confirmation workflows
These improvements gave Betafence a stronger infrastructure for managing professional customers alongside direct ecommerce buyers.

UX & Shopping Experience Improvements

The Shopify storefront was reorganized to make a large and varied product catalog easier to explore.StoreCartify developed and refined key website components, including the ecommerce header and navigation, hero sections, top-selling products, products and services sections, business solutions pages, residential and commercial categories, and Shop by Brand functionality.Advanced collection filters helped customers narrow down relevant fencing products, while improved categorization provided clearer paths for different industries and applications.Additional commerce functionality included Frequently Bought Together recommendations, discount popups, subscriber coupon automation, Request a Quote functionality, Zoho Forms, a Store Locator, and reorder forms.

Content Migration & Management

A substantial amount of existing WordPress content needed to be preserved and reorganized for Shopify.StoreCartify migrated blogs and resolved missing images and linking issues while continuing to support monthly blog updates. Additional content work included:
  • Brochure uploads
  • Installation video publishing
  • FAQ updates
  • About Us content
  • Privacy Policy
  • Shipping Policy
  • Terms of Service
  • Product description standardization
  • USA Guarantees page
  • Promotional and campaign landing pages
The result was a more centralized content and commerce environment that could be managed through Shopify.

SEO Preservation & Search Visibility

Maintaining organic visibility during the WordPress-to-Shopify migration was a major priority.StoreCartify prepared detailed migration mapping covering products, collections, pages, and SEO redirects.Full URL redirection mapping was implemented to help users and search engines reach the appropriate Shopify destinations after migration. The team also preserved or optimized important SEO elements, including metadata, image alt tags, blog links, and sitemap workflows.Structured product schema was implemented to make product information easier for search engines and AI-driven discovery systems to understand.

AI & Advanced Commerce Features

The engagement also included emerging AI-focused capabilities designed to prepare Betafence's ecommerce platform for changing customer discovery and support behavior.StoreCartify supported the implementation of an AI chatbot as well as AI agentic functionality through ongoing development sprints.Product schema and structured data were also optimized with AI and search visibility in mind.Together, these initiatives provided Betafence with a foundation for experimenting with AI-assisted customer experiences while improving the machine-readable structure of its product information.

Performance & Technical Optimization

Performance improvements were another important component of the Shopify migration.StoreCartify conducted speed and performance testing while simplifying parts of the existing technical stack.Shipping was migrated from ShipperHQ to Shopify's native setup, reducing reliance on a third-party shipping solution. The team also tested checkout behavior, shipping rates, product assignments, pricing, sales channels, duplicate products, and B2B workflows before and after migration.Mobile and accessibility considerations were incorporated into QA, including ADA compliance validation.

Testing & Quality Assurance

With a large product catalog and several customer journeys, extensive QA was required before launch.StoreCartify conducted unit testing across migrated items and validated whether products were correctly connected to relevant sales channels.Products that were not linked to sales channels were documented for correction. The QA process also covered:
  • USA and South Africa pricing
  • Black Friday promotional pricing
  • Category assignments
  • Duplicate products
  • Checkout functionality
  • Shipping rates
  • Site performance
  • B2B registration and account workflows
  • Accessibility
  • Migration integrity
This helped identify migration and configuration issues before they could affect customers.

Seasonal Campaign & Marketing Support

The Shopify platform also needed to support Betafence's ongoing promotional calendar rather than functioning as a static ecommerce website.StoreCartify developed promotional assets and landing pages for campaigns such as Black Friday, Labour Day, Fall Discount, and other seasonal initiatives.A 5% subscriber coupon automation and promotional popups were implemented to support acquisition and conversion campaigns. This gave the marketing team greater flexibility to launch and manage promotions around key sales periods.

Launch & Ongoing Development

Following migration and testing, Betafence USA successfully launched its new Shopify storefront.StoreCartify supported launch activities including under-construction page management, popup configuration, post-launch feedback, and activation of Government and Commercial categories.Rather than ending at launch, the engagement continued through a sprint-based development model. This approach allowed Betafence to continuously introduce improvements, resolve issues, support campaigns, and develop new ecommerce and AI functionality as requirements evolved.

The migration established a stronger Shopify foundation across performance, B2B commerce, SEO, and user experience.

Stronger B2B Infrastructure

Betafence gained a functional contractor and wholesale ecosystem incorporating SparkLayer registration, customer tagging, segmentation, account dashboards, invoice access, and reorder capabilities.

Project Management

A migration of this scale involved coordination across ecommerce, content, B2B operations, SEO, design, development, QA, marketing, and product management.StoreCartify used a structured development process beginning with stakeholder discussions and scope review, followed by wireframing, development, migration, testing, launch, and post-launch optimization.Ongoing work was organized through development sprints, allowing Betafence to prioritize new features and improvements as business requirements changed.

Communication

Clear and consistent communication played an important role in the partnership.StoreCartify kept the Canvas by Numbers team informed throughout the development process, making it easier to coordinate multiple improvements and respond quickly as priorities changed. This communication helped establish a collaborative working relationship and supported the smooth delivery of ongoing Shopify improvements.

Unique Selling Point

The key strength of the engagement was StoreCartify's ability to manage the migration as a complete commerce transformation rather than a platform switch alone. The project brought together WordPress-to-Shopify migration, B2B commerce, UX/UI, SEO preservation, content migration, performance optimization, shipping, structured data, AI functionality, marketing campaigns, and ongoing development. This gave Betafence a Shopify platform capable of supporting both traditional ecommerce customers and more complex contractor and wholesale relationships.

Conclusion

StoreCartify helped Betafence USA move from WordPress to a more scalable Shopify commerce ecosystem while addressing the requirements of both B2B and B2C customers.Careful URL mapping, content migration, metadata management, and structured data work supported SEO continuity, while SparkLayer and customized account functionality created a stronger foundation for contractor and wholesale commerce. At the same time, improvements to navigation, filtering, performance, shipping, product organization, promotions, and AI capabilities created a platform designed for continuous evolution. With the migration successfully launched and ongoing development organized around regular sprints, Betafence now has a Shopify foundation that can continue adapting as its ecommerce and B2B requirements grow.
